Task: The line graph shows international tourists visiting France, Australia and India, 2000–2020.

Para 1: Intro The line graph paraphraseillustrates the number of international visitors to three countries — France, Australia, and India — over a twenty-year period from 2000 to 2020.

Para 2: Overview Overall, France attracted by far the greatest number of tourists throughout the period, while India experienced the most dramatic growth — nearly tripling its visitor numbers. Australia grew steadily but on a considerably smaller scale.

Para 3: Detail 1 France remained the world's most visited destination, rising from approximately 75 million tourists in 2000 to around 90 million by 2020 — an increase of roughly 20%. Australia followed a similar upward trajectory, growing from 4 million to 6.8 million visitors over the same period.

Para 4: Detail 2 The most striking trend was India's rapid acceleration. Starting from just 2.6 million visitors in 2000, India's figures surged to 14 million by 2020 — more than five times the 2000 figure — yet remained far below those of France throughout.

Intro The question of whether children should be encouraged to compete or cooperate has long divided educators. While both approaches offer distinct benefits, I believe that a cooperative orientation, supplemented by healthy competition, best prepares children for adult life.

View 1: Competition Proponents of competition argue that it motivates children to achieve their potential. Competitive elements — such as grades and prizes — create incentives for diligence and excellence. Furthermore, early exposure to competition may prepare children for the professional world, where advancement often depends on outperforming peers.

View 2: Cooperation Those who favour cooperation contend that it fosters more enduring and socially valuable skills. Collaborative activities develop communication, empathy, and the ability to work towards shared goals — qualities increasingly prized in modern workplaces. Moreover, an excessively competitive environment can breed anxiety and damage the self-esteem of less high-achieving children.

Conclusion In my view, while competition has its place, cooperation should form the foundation of children's education. Schools would do well to embed collaborative projects throughout the curriculum, reserving competitive elements for specific, well-managed contexts.
