Part 1 — Weak vs Band 7+ Answers

Q

Do you work or study?

x
✗ Weak: "I study at university."

✓ Band 7+: "I'm in my final year of Computer Science at Dhaka University. It's quite demanding — especially with my thesis project — but I find it deeply rewarding because I've always been passionate about technology and problem-solving."
Technique
Fact + Elaboration + Personal reaction। "because", "which means", "so" দিয়ে যুক্ত করুন।
Q

What do you like to do in your free time?

+
✗ Weak: "I like reading and watching TV."

✓ Band 7+: "I'm particularly fond of reading — especially non-fiction about history and science. What I find most satisfying is that it broadens my perspective. I also enjoy cooking on weekends, which I find quite therapeutic after a stressful week."
Q

Describe your hometown.

+
✓ Band 7+: "I'm from Chittagong — a port city in the south of Bangladesh. It's quite vibrant, known for its hilly terrain, unusual for Bangladesh, and its bustling seaport. What I love most is the street food — especially 'mezbani', a traditional beef curry served at communal gatherings. The city has a very strong cultural identity."
Advanced vocab used

Model Answer — Cox's Bazar (Band 7.5)Band 7.5

Where & When I'd like to talk about Cox's Bazar — a coastal city in the south of Bangladesh, home to the world's longest natural sea beach. I visited about two years ago during the winter holiday.

What & Who I went with five university friends. We spent most of our time on the beach watching the sunrise over the Bay of Bengal — absolutely breathtaking. We also explored the local market and tried incredible fresh seafood.

Why interesting What made it memorable was the sheer scale — you could walk for hours and the shoreline stretched on forever. There was something humbling about standing at the ocean's edge, feeling so small. It gave me a genuine sense of perspective. I'd definitely go back.

Part 3 — Discussion

Part 3 Model Answers — Band 7+ Structure

Opinion → Argument + Example → Counter → Nuanced conclusion — এই ৪-ধাপ structure সবসময় কাজ করে।

Q

Is tourism always beneficial for local communities?

x
✓ Band 7+: "That's a nuanced issue. On one hand, tourism clearly brings economic benefits — it generates employment and stimulates local businesses. Cox's Bazar is a good example — the tourism industry supports thousands of families. However, rapid and unmanaged tourism can cause significant environmental damage and erode local culture. So I'd argue the benefits depend heavily on how tourism is managed. Sustainable tourism, with strong environmental regulations, can be genuinely beneficial — whereas mass tourism without oversight often does more harm than good."
Structure
Opinion → Argument + Example → Counter → Nuanced conclusion।
Q

How has technology changed socialising?

+
✓ Band 7+: "Technology has fundamentally transformed social interaction in ways both positive and problematic. Social media has made it possible to maintain connections across vast distances — valuable for diaspora communities. That said, there's growing evidence that excessive screen time diminishes the quality of face-to-face interaction. Younger generations seem to struggle with in-person communication in ways previous generations did not. So while technology has expanded the quantity of social connections, it may well have reduced their depth."
Advanced vocab
"fundamentally transformed", "diaspora", "diminishes" — এই phrases Band 7+ দেখায়।
Q

Should governments invest more in arts and culture?

+
✓ Band 7+: "I believe they should, though not at the expense of essential services. Arts contribute to national identity and social cohesion in ways difficult to quantify but nonetheless real. Countries like France and Germany, which heavily subsidise their cultural sectors, demonstrate that government investment can produce world-class art while fostering civic pride. However, in developing countries where healthcare and education remain underfunded, prioritising the arts seems somewhat misaligned with immediate needs. A balanced approach through public-private partnerships seems most sensible."
