পরীক্ষায় একটি Degree থেকে অন্য Degree-তে রূপান্তর করতে বলা হয়। নিচে একই অর্থে তিনটি Degree দেখানো হলো:
Degrees of Comparison (তুলনামূলক বিশেষণ) হলো Adjective বা Adverb-এর তিনটি স্তর যা দিয়ে বস্তু বা ব্যক্তির গুণ তুলনা করা হয়। ইংরেজিতে তিনটি Degree আছে: Positive, Comparative এবং Superlative। এটি SSC ও HSC-তে বাক্য রূপান্তর প্রশ্নে অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।

কখন more/most? সাধারণত ২ syllable-এর বেশি Adjective-এ more/most ব্যবহার হয়। কিন্তু কিছু ২-syllable Adjective উভয়ভাবেই চলে: clever → cleverer/more clever।

Degree-এর ব্যবহার
Positive Degree-এর ব্যবহার
- ১as…as (সমান তুলনা)She is as tall as her brother.সে তার ভাইয়ের মতোই লম্বা।
- ২not as/so…as (অসমান — কম)He is not as clever as his sister.সে তার বোনের মতো চালাক নয়।
- ৩as…as possible (যতটা সম্ভব)Come as soon as possible. / Do it as quickly as you can.যতটা সম্ভব তাড়াতাড়ি এসো।
Comparative Degree-এর ব্যবহার
- ১than দিয়ে তুলনাRahim is taller than Karim. / Gold is more valuable than silver.রহিম করিমের চেয়ে লম্বা। / সোনা রুপার চেয়ে মূল্যবান।
- ২The + Comparative, the + Comparative (যত...তত)The more you read, the more you learn. / The harder you work, the better results you get.যত বেশি পড়বে, তত বেশি শিখবে।
- ৩Comparative + and + Comparative (ক্রমশ বাড়ছে)It is getting hotter and hotter. / She became more and more confident.এটি ক্রমশ গরম হচ্ছে।
- ৪No + Comparative + than (তুলনায় কম নয়)He is no less brave than a lion.সে সিংহের চেয়ে কম সাহসী নয়।
Superlative Degree-এর ব্যবহার
- ১the + Superlative + in/ofShe is the best student in the class. / He is the tallest of all.সে শ্রেণীর সেরা ছাত্রী।
- ২one of the + Superlative + Plural NounDhaka is one of the most populated cities in the world.ঢাকা বিশ্বের সবচেয়ে জনবহুল শহরগুলোর একটি।
- ৩No other + Singular Noun + PositiveNo other student is as good as she.অন্য কোনো ছাত্রী তার মতো ভালো নয়।
